Skincare 4 Men - Why Should Men Look After Their Skin?

As a modern day man, long gone are the days of not caring for yourself.  Nowadays we generally know how important it is to look after ourselves! What about the biggest organ on our body though– the Skin? More specifically the face.  Your face announces your age, health & vitality, so it is a must to invest in presenting the best version of yourself that you possibly can.

Having said this, there are lots of skin products around, but how do you know what to use? How to use it? What it actually does? There are lots of questions and things you need to know to get onto a great skincare routine that absolutely works for you.

As a Skincare Consultant for men & women, I find myself coming across questions and theories every day.  So here I have a few hints & tips to help you get started and find your way into looking & feeling amazing.

1.Do you really need skincare products for Men or can you use your girlfriends/wife’s?
Yes you do need specific products for men. Men’s skin is generally around 25% thicker than women’s skin. You also have more pores, your skin tends to be more oily, and you generally have facial hair. Women’s products don’t really cater for these issues. So the next time you feel like grabbing her moisturiser – don’t.

2. What products should you use in a great skincare regime?
You should be looking to exfoliate, cleanse & moisturise as a minimum. This will enable you to see the benefits of firmer and smoother skin with a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles within a few days of use. If you use a moisturiser with SPF in it you are also protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays too.

3. Do you shave before Cleansing, or Cleanse before you shave?
Ideally you should cleanse and exfoliate before shaving to help soften the skin and to open and clean the pores. This will then make shaving closer, easier & stop razor burn or irritation.

4. Can you use the same moisturiser on your face as you do with hands & body?
I wouldn’t recommend you use the same one. Your facial skin is a lot more sensitive and there are generally harsher ingredients in hand & body products than in the facial products.

5. Can you use skincare products if you have eczema, rosacea or other skin issues?
Absolutely... a great skincare regime can help common skin issues & sometimes even stop the issue.

Always make sure you consult with a specialist and find a way of trying the products before buying to make sure you don’t have a bad reaction. Find a regime suitable for sensitive skin that is fragrance free as these will be the best regimes for you.
